Cabarrus County offers a variety of competitions to allow our youth to experience public expression of their talents. Some activities are just held locally, while others allow for youth to progress to district, state and even national levels. See the 2024 Cabarrus County Calendar for this year’s dates.

Age Classes include Cloverbud (5-7), 8-10, 11-13, 14-18.

Presentations, public speaking, Char-Grill and Entertains will hold district competitions at District Activity Day (the great day once a year where all of our 4-H’ers from across our 19 county district come together to showcase our talents).

4-H Entertains Talent Show

Got the performing bug? Love to show your talents? Here’s your chance! . Show everyone how “4-H Entertains!” Talent  Show will take place at our County Council Meeting on April 4th at 6:15 p.m. at the Cabarrus Arts Council, Davis Theater. Register in NC 4-H by March 14th. Please submit your registration form to the Office by March 14th. The form is at 2024 Talent Show Registration.

Expressive Arts Showcase

Show your creative side – enter an item (or a dozen) into our Expressive Arts Contest. With over 25 categories, there is something for everyone. Entries are due on or before the County Council meeting on March 14 at the 4-H office or at the County Council meeting at the Extension Office. Ages 5-18 as of January 1, 2024. This is a great way to prepare items to be entered in the fair. You must  Register in 4-H Online. Items will be showcased with awards at Cabarrus Arts Council March 22nd-April 6th. Public Speaking at County Activity Day -Presentations

Share your passion! Design a presentation or demonstration on your favorite things. Research on a specific topic and show what you know. Demonstrate how to do your favorite hobby. Showcase your collection. Ideas are limitless. Choose from 32 different categories, including an Open Class. Anything goes (must be school appropriate) Presentations can include technology, props, posters, and any visual aid. Limited to 6 ft. tablespace. Youth may prepare 5-7 minute speeches on any topic. Speeches include no props, posters or visual aides. See handbook for guidelines. Register in 4-H Online. No need to clarify topic. County Activity Day will be held in person at assigned times on April 27th. District Activity Day will be held on June 18 in Scotland County. Transportation will be provided upon request. State competition will be held on July 23rd in Raleigh on campus at NCSU. Participating youth may attend NC 4-H Congress. Scholarships available based on participation in competition.

Char-Grill at Activity Day

Love to grill? Want to learn more? Have a favorite recipe to show off? Char-Grill is the perfect fit! A spin on traditional presentations, youth can present their knowledge of food safety and kitchen skills through a grilling competition. Youth will have space for a pop-up tent and all of their wares needed to showcase the recipe. Choose from turkey, beef, chicken, or pork for recipes. Restrictions apply. See handbook. County Activity Day will be held in person at assigned times on April 27th. District Activity Day will be held on June 18 in Scotland County. Transportation will be provided upon request. State competition will be held on July 23rd in Raleigh on campus at NCSU. Participating youth may attend NC 4-H Congress. Scholarships available based on participation in competition. Register in 4-H Online. Choose turkey, beef, chicken or pork char-grill. Restrictions apply. See Handbook for specific meat selection.
